Love City Waterfront

What a mix of feelings this image holds for the visitor to St. John.  This view is seen as you depart the beloved, tranquil island.  However, more importantly, this grows larger, closer, and more detailed as your ferry brings you in from St. Thomas.  Hours have been spent in planes and cars, but during this home stretch of the long, tiring day, paradise is coming into view and getting closer and closer.

Bananaquit

The bananaquit in the state bird for the US Virgin Islands.  Any time spent around the gardens on the island and you’ve surely seen their beauty as they move about the flowers.

St. John Donkey

During my first visit to St. John I stayed at Maho Bay EcoResort.  Part way through one of our hikes down to Maho beach we came around a corner to see a donkey in the middle of the path.  We were surprised, but she just looked at us casually.  Eventually she moved on so that we could continue down the trail to the beach.  Since then we’ve seen donkeys on every trip.  Their nonchalance is always in contrast to my excitement.

Love City Chicken

Chickens on St. John are probably most recognizable as part of the character of Cruz Bay.  However, you can also find them rambling about on the beaches.  They were especially enthusiastic during our last trip to Francis Bay, poking around our stuff looking for snacks.

St. John Palm

The palm design is inspired by the bold and graphic shadows the palm tree leaves on the sand beneath the blazing sun.  Tucked in, under its large fronds and protected from the baking rays, I’m always able to read and nap and utterly relax.

Hibiscus

The first villa I ever rented on St. John had a lovely garden walkway up to the door.  Each day I passed a single, bold, red hibiscus bloom.  It’s simplicity and charm inspired this equally simple and charming design.
